Circuit Visions of Morocco

The imperial cities and the grand South (8 days / 7 nights)

Day 1: City tour of Marrakesh

You leave your hotel in the morning for a visit of the historical “Southern Pearl”. This tour leads us first to the Menara Gardens, passing by the Saadian Tombs to the Bahia Palace. Before lunch we visit the Koutoubia Mosque from the outside. After the break we drive along the cities walls to the Majorelle Garden and finally you stroll along the Souks. Last but not least we visit the Djemaa El Fna at sunset. That’s when the spectacle on the place, the living heart of Marrakesch, awakes for good: snake charmers, acrobats, monkey tamers, story tellers will charm you. Afterwards dinner and overnight stay at your hotel.


Day 2: Marrakesh – Casablanca – Rabat (340 km)

After breakfast we leave for Casablanca, the economical capital of Morocco. The city tour leads us through the posh residential neighbourhood of Anfa, along the coastal road Corniche Ain Diab, on to the Mosque Hassan II (Visit of the exterior parts). We then have lunch on the Corniche. Afterwards we continue towards Rabat and visit the capital’s most fascinating sights: the Royal Palace, the Hassan-Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the Oudaya Garden. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel.




Day 3: Rabat – Meknès – Moulay Idriss – Volubilis – Fez (210 km)

In the morning we leave for Meknès, the former capital of the Alawites surnamed « Versailles of Morocco ». Tour of the city whose image is branded by the surrounding wall 40 kilometres in length: The programme consists of the Place El Hedim, Bab Mansour, without a doubt one of the most beautiful gates in the whole country, and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, the only mosque besides the Hassan II Mosque accessible for Non-Muslim. After lunch we continue towards Moulay Idriss, the kingdom’s pilgrimage site. Next your journey leads you to Volubilis the largest and best
preserved roman ruins in the country. After a circuit of the site we drive to Fez. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel.

Danach führt uns die Reise nach Volubilis zu den grössten und besterhaltenen Römischen Ruinen in ganz Marokko. Nach der Besichtigung fahren wir nach Fès. Abendessen und Übernachtung im Hotel.


Day 4: Fez
This day is dedicated to the Medina of Fez, the spiritual centre and the oldest royal city of Morocco (founded in the 8th century). For centuries the city was the cultural and religious middle of the western Islamic world with its stunning Souks, winding, always crowded alleys, cultural richness, elaborate craftsmanship, splendid mosques, libraries and Koranic schools.
In Fez many witnesses of the past have been preserved: Your city tour leads you to the Mosque and university Karaouine, the oldest university all around the world, the Andalusian Mosque, the Fountain of the Nejjarine, opulently decorated with mosaics, the Koranic school Medersa Bou
Inania or Attarine, the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss, the medina, the souks, the Royal Palace, the Jewish quarter, the Merinides graves, the tannery and finally the gigantic gates that separate the old from the new town. You have the possibility to hire an official city guide. Afterwards dinner and overnight stay at your hotel.


Day 5: Fez – Ifrane – Midelt – Errachidia – Merzouga (460 km)

After breakfast we tackle the traverse of the Middle Atlas. The journey leads us to Ifrane. Due to its location in the middle of a cedar forest and its European style houses this little town is also known as “little Switzerland”. In Midelt we stop for lunch. Afterwards we cross the pass Tizin’Talrhemt. Next we drive along the Valley of the Ziz, one of the most beautiful palm groves in Morocco. After arriving in Merzouga you switch on a dromedary and ride into the sunset (approximately 1.5 to 2 hours). Dinner and overnight stay in a fully equipped nomad tents in the middle of the dunes of the Erg Chebi. If preferred you can ride back to Merzouga after sunset and
spend the night in a hotel.


Day 6: Merzouga – Gorges of Todra – Gorges of Dadès (240 km)

After sunrise you ride back to the hotel for breakfast and a hot shower. Then we drive to Tinghir, where you visit one of the most beautiful oases of Morocco. Our next stop is in the Gorges of Todra with its impressive ochre rock face, 300 metres in height. After lunch the circuit leads us towards Boumalne Dadès through the Valley of the Roses and thousand Kasbahs, a stunning valley best known for its landscapes and very old Kasbahs. As final point of the day we drive into the Gorges of Dadès for a leisurely stroll. Dinner and overnight stay in a guesthouse.

Day 7: Gorges of Dadès – Kelâa M’gouna – Ouarzazate (160 km)
Today’s leg leads us to Ouarzazate, the capital of the Moroccan film industry. Along the way we visit the city of Kelâa M’gouna, well known for its splendid roses. In Ouarzazte you make a tour of the Kasbah of Taourirt. The old residence of the Pasha El Glaoui is the best preserved Kasbah in the whole South of Morocco. It has been named World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. After lunch we make a short 10 kilometre drive to the Oasis Fint. There you visit a traditional Berber house and have tea with the owner. Afterwards we return to Ouarzazate for dinner and overnight stay.


Day 8: Ouarzazate – Aït Benhaddou – Marrakesh (240 km)

In Ouarzazate you visit the largest film studio Atlas Corporation. Afterwards we drive to Aït Benhaddou, the world-famous 11th century Kasbah named World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. On location many films like “Gladiator” or “Lawrence of Arabia” have been shot. After lunch we start our return journey towards Marrakesh over the High Atlas. We’ll make a quick stop on the Pass Tizi’n’Tichka – with an altitude of 2260 meters above sea level the most elevated place in the kingdom to be reached by car. After arriving in Marrakesh you move into your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
