Aït Benhaddou and the film studios
Ouarzazate is known as the centre of the Moroccan movie industry. That’s why we start our half-day-trip with a visit of the largest film studio in town, Atlas Corporation. Discover at close range different sets from well known Hollywood films that were produced in Ouarzazate: Marvel at the Dalai Lama’s library from “Kundun”, stroll through the centre of power from “Alexander” or visit Cleopatra’s empire, recreated for the film “Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra”. Afterwards we drive to the world famous Kasbah of Aït Benhaddou, 33 kilometres from Ouarzazate. Die 11th century Kasbah is the most authentic and best preserved in the whole South of Morocco. as World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Visitor from all around the world are fascinated by the immense beauty of this place. Until today several families live and work in Aït Benhaddou. Since the 1960-ies the Kasbah served several times as a movie set, among others for “Lawrence of Arabia”, Jesus, “Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra” or “Gladiator”. |
